Daniel is experienced in the management of most forms of dental trauma. He is one of the regional representatives for Dental Trauma UK in Norfolk and Essex.
In the case of a dental trauma emergency you should visit your dentist immediately or, if out-of-hours, the nearest A&E department, if not sure, call NHS 111 for advice. If you are not in need of urgent assistance and your dentist recommended to visit a specialist endodontist (root canal specialist), please contact us for more information.
In the event of an emergency (if the tooth is knocked out or is hanging loose), you should visit your dentist immediately or, if out-of -hours, the nearest A&E department, if not sure, call NHS 111 for advice.
If your tooth is broken or displaced (but not hanging loose), this can wait until the morning when your dentist's surgery is open.
1: Pick the tooth up by the crown only (do not touch the root)
2: Lick the tooth clean if it is dirty, or rinse it in water
3: Stick the tooth back in position (adult teeth only)
*** Never try to re-insert a baby tooth ***
4: Bite on a handkerchief to hold it in place
5: Go straight to a dentist or call NHS 111 for advicd
If it's not possible to put the tooth back in position, put the tooth in milk and go straight to a dentist (out of hours go to A&E).
Tooth fragments can sometimes be glued back into position.
Find the fragment and take it to your dentist who might try to stick the fragment back on or build your tooth up with a tooth-coloured filling.
